Password works with direct url but not with link

I have included the script to the page I want to be protected. If I type the URL directly in the browswer I get the password prompt. However, I placed a link on my homepage that points the user to this protected page. However when you click on the link it takes you directly to the page and does not prompt for a password.

It will only prompt for password once. So if you entered password when opened via direct url it will not ask when you get redirected from home page
