hi, this is the response i get after placing ""<br><b>&lt;?php include("' . str_replace('\\','\\\\',str_replace(basename(__FILE__),'login.php',__FILE__)) . '"); ?&gt;</b>';"" in the test page.
also, you can see that the &lt; needs to be replaced with < and same for the ending of the php script.

Warning: include(' . str_replace('\','\\',str_replace(basename(__FILE__),'login.php',__FILE__)) . ') [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /Library/WebServer/Documents/bobs_pages/testpassword2.php on line 1

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening '' . str_replace('\','\\',str_replace(basename(__FILE__),'login.php',__FILE__)) . '' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /Library/WebServer/Documents/bobs_pages/testpassword2.php on line 1
;'; this is a test of password protect using login.php
